Abstract
This essay examines the relationship of Crawley Films to Expo 67 and its organizing committee, the Canadian Corporation for the 1967 World Exhibition. Its focus is on one title in particular, Expo 67 (René Bonnière, 1965), which was released two years before Expo 67 opened, and was specifically designed to entice investors and exhibitors into seizing upon the opportunities created by the exhibition. This idiosyncratic short, sponsored by the Traders Finance Corporation of Toronto, is a striking example of how specialists in industrial films, such as Crawley Films, made significant contributions to how Montreal was represented and understood during this period, as well as how such films sometimes had a direct bearing on the city’s dramatic redevelopment.
