Abstract

Parce qu’en formation à distance, l’isolement est la cause de beaucoup d’abandons (Bernard et al., 2004 ; Elliott et al., 2005), nous avons tenté d’augmenter la perception de présence transactionnelle, c’est-à-dire le degré auquel un étudiant en formation à distance se perçoit en lien avec ses enseignants, ses pairs et son établissement (Shin, 2002). Dans deux cours à distance autorythmés (n = 225), nous avons expérimenté l’utilisation d’une visioconférence Web et d’un logiciel social. Conformément à la méthodologie de design-based research, où les chercheurs collaborent activement avec les acteurs du terrain afin d’améliorer les approches à chaque itération, nous présentons les interventions éducatives mises en place en lien avec ces outils du web 2.0. Les résultats montrent que, depuis le début de cette recherche, ce sont les visioconférences qui ont eu le plus d’impact sur la perception de présence transactionnelle, mais cela surtout, dans cette deuxième itération, par l’entremise de l’enregistrement des rencontres dans ces cours où chaque étudiant chemine à son propre rythme. Ces résultats nous amènent à redéfinir le concept même de l’isolement et les moyens pour le diminuer en formation à distance autorythmée.
