Abstract
Cette thèse examine l'évolution des facteurs traditionnels du populisme dans les démocraties occidentales, tels que les tensions économiques, la méfiance envers les institutions et l'anxiété culturelle, au Canada au cours de la dernière décennie. Elle se concentre spécifiquement sur la manière dont l'immigration a été cadrée dans le discours politique comme une source de pression sur l'identité nationale, la cohésion sociale ainsi que sur les services et ressources publiques, notamment en période de tensions économiques accrues. En mobilisant une approche méthodologique mixte combinant reconstitution des processus et analyse du discours, cette étude analyse l'impact des pénuries de logements et des contraintes dans le secteur de la santé sur la montée et l'évolution de la rhétorique populiste lors des débats à la Chambre des communes entre 2015 et 2024. Bien que le Canada soit fréquemment présenté comme un modèle mondial de multiculturalisme et d'ouverture, les résultats révèlent une augmentation notable de l'usage d'un langage chargé avec émotion et excluant, particulièrement depuis 2020. Ces changements se manifestent de manière plus marquée dans certaines provinces, notamment l'Alberta de l'ouest, où les griefs régionaux ont renforcé les récits populistes, tandis que le Québec témoigne d'une plus grande continuité, offrant ainsi un point de comparaison pertinent.
