Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Distributed by Pragda, 302 Bedford Ave., #136, Brooklyn, NY 11249Produced by Mostafiz ShahMohammed, Marta Sanchez, and FILMZ LLCDirected by Liliane Mutti2022, Streaming, 98 mins Compiled from personal letters, audio diaries, and home movies, Miúcha: The Voice of Bossa Nova is a survey of the life of famous singer, Heloísa Maria Buarque de Hollanda, more popularly known as Miúcha. The film is an autobiographical travelogue detailing her youth in Brazil, and her time in Paris and New York. In a film augmented by a beautiful Bossa Nova score and watercolors that the subject had, herself, painted, audiences are given a glimpse into the life and loves of Miúcha and her music, overshadowed since childhood by larger-than-life male figures, but also enriched by famous artists of her day, like Simone de Beauvoir and Stan Getz. The former unearthing a nascent feminism in Miúcha, that we see drives her later musical and personal relationships. While perhaps a bit dry, this is a documentary that would appeal to fans of Bossa Nova and musical history, specifically as it relates to Miúcha and modern jazz. As an academic tool, the film may spur discussions in music, 20th-century history, and the feminist movement, but is, perhaps, too microscopically focused on the particulars of one musician's life. Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
