Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Distributed by Bullfrog Films, PO Box 149, Oley, PA 19547; 800-543-FROG (3764)Produced by Gillian DarlingDirected by Gillian Darling2023, Streaming, 7 mins Meddle is a short film that touches on Haida Manga artist Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas’ work with Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver, BC and his “Coppers from the Hood” series. Unfortunately, the story the film wants to tell is not one that fits into its seven-minute run time. The film feels like a trailer, rather than a documentary, jumping between topics while not sufficiently exploring them. Those who are already familiar with the artist, his work, and Pacific Northwest art history may be able to supplement the gaps in the script with their knowledge, but the average viewer is likely to find it confusing and incomplete. This choppy short film is not recommended. Other short films that explore Haida artwork more clearly and concisely may be a better choice for educational viewing. The excellent Gyaangee: Beyond Being Silenced about Haida artist Robert Davidson, also from Bullfrog Films, is a strong alternative, with a similarly short run time! Awards:Best Fine Art Documentary, Alexandre Trauner ART/Film Festival; Special Festival Award, Special Artist Recognition Award, ArteNonStop Buenos Aires Film Festival; Best Documentary Short, Dreamachine International Film Festival

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
