Abstract
In December 2018, a salvage excavation was conducted at Ma‘alot Rabbi Yehuda Ha-Levi, in the eastern part of the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem (Permit No. A-8399; map ref. 222188–92/631423–6; Fig. 1), following the exposure of the top of an ancient wall during infrastructure work prior to installing a sewage pipe. The excavation, on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and funded by the Corporation for the Renovation and Development of the Jewish Quarter in the Old City of Jerusalem Ltd., was conducted as part of the ‘Western Wall Elevator’ project that aimed to connect the Jewish Quarter with the Western Wall Plaza. The excavation was directed by S. Weksler-Bdolah and M. Shor (director and field photography), with the assistance of N. Nechama and S. Cohen (administration), V. Essman (surveying and drafting), I. Naor (organic material conservation), Y. Maor (analytical laboratory), I. Taxel (pottery), Y. Gorin-Rosen (glass), I. Lidsky-Reznikov (drawing of the pottery and the inlaid bone object) and D. Gazit (small finds photography).
