Abstract
Episode Summary As a 60s Scoop survivor who survived physical and sexual abuse, "Angeline" was disbelieved and denied protection by the police - a repeated pattern throughout their life. These experiences totally destroyed their trust in the police, which is a sentiment shared by many other Indigenous people. Episode Notes Content Note: general discussion of colonial violence and racism against Indigenous people including residential schools, the 60s Scoops and in police encounters; sexual abuse against an Indigenous person as a child; intimate partner violence; a graphic description of a childhood physical assault by an adoptive parent; failure of child protection and police to provide protection; and description of an assault by a police officer against an Indigenous person.
