Abstract

Sob a ótica dos estudos de gênero e da crítica literária feminista, o objetivo do referido artigo consiste em mostrar como as personagens romanescas D. Isabel de Aragão, protagonista d’A Rainha Santa (2017), de Isabel Machado, e Lady Margaret Beaufort, protagonista d’A Rainha Vermelha (2019), de Philippa Gregory, apesar de terem se submetido à instituição casamento, elas conseguiram transgredir os padrões de esposas próprios da sociedade de suas épocas. Uma vez que, tanto D. Isabel quanto Lady Margaret, desde as suas infâncias, almejavam o celibato e uma vida votada à santidade através de um noviciado. O estudo consiste em uma pesquisa bibliográfica, com abordagem de interpretação textual, propiciando uma leitura crítico-reflexiva das narrativas literárias. Como aporte teórico, dentre outros, apoiamo-nos nas ideias e concepções de Beauvoir (2019); Klapish-Zuber (1990); L’Hermite-Leclercq (1990); Medeiros (2013, 2019); Millett (2003 [1998], 1970); Muraro (2002); Perrot (2017); Pontes (2022); Opitz (1990). Em conclusão, constatamos que as atitudes das protagonistas soam como transgressões, pois, mesmo tendo se submetido à conjuntura do sistema patriarcal, elas mantiveram uma vida devota ao Cristianismo, tanto para realizar seus desejos de servir ao divino, como também, numa forma de não se submeterem totalmente às amarras de uma sociedade androcêntrica e falocêntrica, calcada em um pensamento hegemônico e supremacista masculino.
