Abstract
C’est à Bologne, entre 1361 et 1364, que Benvenuto da Imola, le célèbre exégète de Dante, composa en latin une longue compilation d’histoire romaine intitulée le Romuleon. Deux traductions françaises virent le jour, la première réalisée par Jean Miélot à l’instigation de Philippe le Bon (1460), le seconde rédigée par Sébastien Mamerot pour le compte de Louis de Laval (1466). Le présent volume, qui renferme l’édition critique des quatre derniers livres de la compilation dans la version de Mamerot, retrace les grandes heures de la Rome païenne depuis la fin de la seconde guerre punique. Il manifeste l’engouement d’une frange cultivée de l’aristocratie pour l’Antiquité ainsi que la diffusion progressive de l’humanisme italien dans le royaume de France.
