Abstract
The hydrogen atom, as the simplest and most fundamental atom, has played a central role in advancing the theoretical understanding of physics through its spectroscopic studies.In recent years, the successful stable trapping of antihydrogen atoms -the antimatter counterpart of hydrogen atoms -has opened new avenues for exploring matter-antimatter symmetry violation by comparing their electronic internal structures.Since the lowest electronically excited state of a hydrogen atom is accessible via vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) light at a wavelength of 121.6 nm, we have developed a narrow-linewidth laser source that produces pulsed light at this wavelength.This advancement has enabled both spectroscopic observation and manipulation of motion of antihydrogen atoms.In this review, we discuss the principles behind the generation of narrow-linewidth VUV light, detail the experimental setup, and highlight recent advances in the field.
