Abstract
La industria maquiladora de exportacion no es una industria en sentido literal, sino un regimen arancelario que permite a las empresas importar temporalmente (libres de impuestos) insumos, componentes o maquinaria, e incluso trasladar personal tecnico para producir un bien o servicio en Mexico y reexportarlo a Estados Unidos. Desde su arranque, en 1965, el Programa de la Industria Maquiladora de Exportacion mexicano ha sido una importante fuente de empleos y de inversion extranjera, al tiempo que ha ido avanzando en la introduccion de cambios tecnologicos en la produccion. El Tratado de Libre Comercio con Estados Unidos y Canada ha supuesto un nuevo estimulo para esta actividad y una mayor globalizacion del capital. En el trabajo se analizan de forma pormenorizada la evolucion y perspectivas de la industria maquiladora mexicana, asi como sus implicaciones, que son amplias en la economia nacional, la estructura industrial, la fuerza de trabajo y el impacto territorial.
