For several years, in spite of a growing interest in investigating the area of the performance of alliances, this topic remains under-explored. Few elements exist concerning the means of achieving alliances performance, in particular in the field of the logistic services. This paper aims at analyzing the elements which are likely to increase the capacity of the alliance to achieve its goals in the particular case of the vertical logistic partnership. In order to give an overall picture of this topic, we use transaction cost theory and the theory of organizational learning. The results, based on a quantitative methodology, point out the critical role of trust, commitment and relationship equity. The results also underline the association which exists between communication process, control mechanisms, conflict resolution techniques and performance; moreover, they suggest that alliance performance is positively associated with experience and partner proximity.
