Dans cet article, il s’agit de s’interroger pourquoi les technologies, mises en œuvre au sein du dispositif formel, ne dépassent pas le stade d’une utilisation, au mieux conforme au mode d’emploi, d’autant que celles qui se pratiquent en marge des prescriptions formelles sont appropriées, adaptées, voire « détournées » de leurs usages initiaux. Bien qu’elles naissent toujours en dehors ou en marge du dispositif formel, ces inventions restent, cependant, à l’état expérimental, ne dépassant guère le stade du prototype. Nous souhaiterions montrer que, si les organisations formelles s’avèrent stériles, les pratiques informelles se révèlent plus inventives, sans, pour autant, parvenir à traduire leurs inventions en innovations, c’est-à-dire, reproductibles et commercialisables au sens Schumpetérien.
