Abstract
Dans ce texte, l’auteur propose une lecture de la critique du postnationalisme par Will Kymlicka. Pour ce faire, il examine cinq considérations qui confirment la tendance de nos sociétés à dépasser le nationalisme (mais non la nation). Selon lui, pour les tenants de l’identité postnationale, l’intégration politique est certes plus difficile à l’échelle régionale ou continentale qu’à l’échelle nationale. Elle n’est pourtant pas impossible, dès lors qu’elle rencontre, outre des dispositions politiques à la coopération entre États membres, des dispositions symboliques à la reconnaissance réciproque des peuples, ainsi qu’à la reconnaissance commune des principes voués à les fédérer. Le propos n’est pas ici d’exprimer souhaits ou utopies relativement à la « démocratie européenne ». Il n’est pas de définir ce que doit être l’Union européenne, mais d’énoncer la façon dont elle doit être comprise, en tant qu’« État postnational ».
