Incontournable dans la présentation de communications orales, PowerPoint est paradoxalement fréquemment mal maîtrisé et mal utilisé, ce qui lui vaut des critiques acerbes. Une revue critique de ses origines, de ses affordances, des fondements des reproches qui lui sont faits et de son usage effectif permet de mettre en lumière combien PowerPoint est une « machine rhétorique » qui modifie les genres communicationnels en y exacerbant l’usage de l’image.
