Cultural Barriers to Inclusive Transport for Persons with Disabilities in Southwest Nigeria

Abstract
Persons with disabilities are usually denied of various opportunities including access to transportation in their societies. This paper examines the role which culture plays in the exclusion of persons with disabilities in the transport systems and operations of the southwestern Nigeria. The paper advocates for an inclusive transport program which will accommodate special needs persons in the transport policy and transport modes. It draws from the relevant frameworks of the United States inclusive programs and Canadian transport policy for persons with disabilities to serve as reference points for equalizing transport opportunities for all people with disabilities in southwestern Nigeria, disabilities notwithstanding.
