Ce mémoire traite de la formation du jugement des recruteurs sur la compétence des candidats à un poste de cadre ou de professionnel à l'occasion d'un processus de dotation. La compétence, ne possédant pas d'existence matérielle propre, est abordée sous l'angle d'une convention. L'analyse thématique du discours de 30 recruteurs œuvrant dans des entreprises privées de la région de Québec a permis de saisir et d'analyser les variations de leur jugement sur les compétences des candidats à l'embauche, selon certains facteurs internes et externes à l'entreprise. Dans un premier temps, la formation du candidat, son expérience professionnelle et ses qualités personnelles ont été abordées à travers l'analyse de la valeur, de la signification et de l'importance que les recruteurs leur portent dans le processus de recrutement. Cette échelle des critères utilisée dans l'appréciation de la compétence a été reprise dans un deuxième temps et analysée selon la fiabilité que les recruteurs accordent aux informations recueillies sur le candidat en tenant compte de leur provenance : CV, entrevue, réseau ou références d'anciens employeurs.
