Abstract
The usage of semantic and systematizing method let us ascertain that one of the lexemes which are able to express the conceptual dominant “remission from punishment” in the legal language world image of Canadian English is the lexeme “oblivion”. The article deals with the semantic development of the lexeme “oblivion” in the diachronic aspect. The research is carried out by the division of Canadian legal texts into two periods, such as the 18 th-19 th centuries and the 20 th-21 st centuries respectively.
