Abstract
À Montmagny, le schorre supérieur est en voie d'érosion depuis au moins le début de la décennie de 1980. Entre 1984 et 1986, la micro-falaise a reculé à un taux moyen de 129 cm par année sur l'ensemble du secteur étudié (environ 4 km). Les mesures effectuées au même endroit, entre 1996 et 1999, indiquent une augmentation du taux d'érosion et de l'aire touchée. La micro-falaise recule maintenant à un taux moyen de 168 cm par année. Comme plus de la moitié du recul se produit au cours de la période interglacielle, les vagues et les courants de marée constituent le principal agent responsable. Toutefois, l'érosion est accentuée par l'activité intensive des oies sur la batture, au printemps et à l'automne. Les glaces, qui arrachent de grands radeaux de végétation sur le rebord externe du schorre supérieur, contribuent pour environ 25 à 30 % de l'érosion totale. Par ailleurs, le dégel ameublit les matériaux limono-sableux de la micro-falaise et la rend ainsi vulnérable à l'activité des vagues à marée haute. En période de vive eau, la micro- falaise est exposée aux vagues pendant environ six heures par jour.
