Atualmente a leitura tem tomado espaco consideravel na educacao e na midia brasileira. Em 2003, o Brasil obteve desempenho insatisfatorio em duas grandes pesquisas: uma de âmbito nacional – o Instituto Paulo Montenegro divulgou que 72% de jovens sao alfabetos funcionais, ou seja, nao sabem ler e escrever. Em outra, internacional, o PISA – Programa Internacional para Avaliacao de Estudantes, o pais ocupou o 37o lugar em letramento de leitura. Acanhadas acoes tem tentado mobilizar escolas, professores, diretores e sociedade para mudar este quadro: PNLD – Programa Nacional do Livro Didatico atraves dos modulos literarios, PNBE – Programa Nacional Biblioteca na Escola, campanhas como “Tempo de leitura” e “Literatura em minha casa”, entre outras. Estas iniciativas mostram algo em comum: a utilizacao de textos literarios. No entanto, nota-se que as instituicoes de ensino nao estao sabendo fazer uso da literatura como objeto para o ensino da leitura. Ao contrario da America do Norte, Canada e Estados Unidos, que propoem, neste sentido, um Programa de leitura fundamentado na literatura (Literature based reading program). Neste contexto, propoe-se este estudo com intuito de contribuir para a investigacao do seguinte problema de pesquisa: Como se ensina a ler atraves do Programa de leitura fundamentado na literatura? Para tanto, propoe-se mostrar um trabalho de campo feito em uma 2a. Serie com o livro Guilherme Augusto Araujo Fernandes, de Mem Fox. Mostraremos as atividades de leitura que possam auxiliar seu ensino e consequentemente adequar o uso de programas como PNLD, PNBE e Literatura em Minha Casa em escolas do Ensino Fundamental.
