Abstract
La représentation du « local » est cruciale pour assurer la subsistance d’un cinéma national canadien menacé par la mondialisation. Trois longs métrages présentés en première au festival du film du Toronto en 2000—Parsley Days, red deer et La Moitié gauche du frigo—illustrent diverses réactions face à la dialectique local-mondial qui caractérise notre situation contemporaine. Ces trois films ne mettent pas seulement l’emphase sur des personnages qui définissent leur identité en rapport à un lieu spécifique, mais traduisent aussi une esthétique locale adaptée à des projets personnels qui se distinguent des productions à grand déploiement visant un marché international.
