En general, este breve articulo quiere dejar sentadas las bases de la diferenciacion profunda que existe entre la ideologia de la etnicidad (que es el caso de Canada, Nueva Zelandia y Australia) y la de nacion indigena, ya que la aparente y somera liviandad en la homologacion de ambas puede traer consecuencias nefastas para la validacion, autonomia, identidad y reconocimiento (endogeno y exogeno) de los pueblos originarios de America. En particular, las controversias que han surgido en torno al pueblo mapuche no son nuevas y se arrastran desde el siglo XVI. Cualquier solucion que se genere como alternativa plausible ante aquellas debe pasar primero por un reconocimiento explicito de aquel como nacion indigena; reconocimiento que debe hilar fino y no caer en lo que otras comunidades poblacionales nativas han caido como lo seria el hecho de aceptar una ideologia de la aceptacion.
