Abstract
Tout comme une société ne se pose que les problèmes qu'elle pourra résoudre, une collectivité ne se donne d'elle-même que la représentation - l'identité - qu'elle saura assumer. De même, si la société québécoise, comme objet de recherche, fut successivement constituée dans les travaux sociologiques 1) comme culture différente (et inférieure) de la culture anglaise; 2) comme société dépendante de la société anglo-canadienne ; 3) comme formation sociale (tronquée) ou région déterminée par la lutte des classes, il faut en trouver le principe explicatif non pas tant dans l'état des connaissances et des théories sociologiques que dans l'état même des rapports sociaux : tout autant que les autres discours sur la société, la sociologie apparaît comme un produit social enraciné dans des conjonctures politiques et économiques déterminantes.
