Abstract
This study aims to determine the demand for Brazilian softwood molding (SM) by United States estimating the elasticity of the main variables that affect the demand. The estimate was obtained by the method of Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) using quarterly historical data between 1994 and 2007. The results indicated that the SM from Chile is a good substitute for Brazilian SM while the Canadian SM not, that is, Brazil and Chile are acting in the same segment in the U.S. market, while Canada is acting in another. At the same time, it was found that Brazilian SM sector is highly dependent of American income to increase its exports to that country.
