El registro obstetrico prenatal representa uno de los sistemas de registro medico de mejor calidad y organizacion empleados en la actualidad en EE. UU. Este sistema ha hecho posible la estandarizacion de la asistencia y el registro de datos del que se han beneficiado las mujeres embarazadas a lo largo de las 2 ultimas decadas. La transicion a un formato electronico deberia conservar estas ventajas y es de esperar que las potencie a traves de mensajes electronicos, de una transmision de informacion fluida y del acceso universal a los datos registrados de manera independiente del lugar donde se haya prestado la asistencia.
