She is one of Japan's most prominent authors and performance poets, having published more than twenty books of poems and numerous volumes of essays on poetry, art, and music. Her awards include the Mugen Poetry Award, the Rekitei Award, the Bansui Award, the Takami Jun Award, the Yomiuri Literature Award, and the Purple Ribbon Medal from the Emperor of Japan.
