As is known, a geographical indication (GI) is a sign that indicates that a product possessing certain characteristics comes from a particular area, where its quality, reputation or other important characteristics are linked to that geographical origin.GIs are protected in several countries of the world, especially in relation to food and beverages, although the degree and form of such protection varies from country to country.
