Часопис «Нові дні»: рубрики «Читачі пишуть» та «Наше листування» як складник редакторської політики Петра Волиняка (матеріали 1960 р.)

Research methodology. The article emphasizes the importance of categorization in the architectonics of the magazine. Magazine «New Days» (Toronto) is regarded as Petro Volynyak’s individual project (alias of P. Chechet), in the 1950–1969-ies. In that time Volynyak did all the work of the editorial staff alone. For instance, he chose materials, headed «On Local Life», «From new editions», «Reviews», «Digestof press», «Other about us», «Shevchenko’s recitals», «Literature in enslaved Ukraine», «Modern poetry in Ukraine», «Letters from Kuban», «Our correspondence», «Readers write», «Obituaries» etc. Hewas the author of many different genres of articles dedicated to the actual themes of socio-political and cultural life. Also he tried to organise subscriptions by himself. The editor’s significant organizational work in monthly «New Days» was aimed at communication with readers, as the study of his activity confirms.Results. The study of the magazine’s sections demonstrated how Petro Volynyak apperceived his readers’ tips to improve the magazine, he reasonably answered their numerous critiсal notes concerning the magazine, in particular he showed the status as a universal monthly, revealed the complexity of editorialand publishing work in immigration conditions.The magazine’s content «New Days», the feasibility of publishing works by Ukrainian Soviet writers, the role of advertisements, the textual problems and copyright in this edition are under study in the thesis.Petro Volynyak’s specific interpretation of cultural, arts, education, philosophical issues, including the one of religious education in the children’s magazine «Sunflower», also edited by him, is emphasized here.Petro Volynyak’s analysis of ideological problems was undertaken by himself with a bright imagery, elements of satire and metaphors of style. The research shows that many materials from the section under study received readers’ echo. It is proved that the materials headlined «Readers write» and «Our correspondence» demonstrate the popularity of the magazine, its reference with readers. It is stressed that readers’ advice and their polemical speeches contributed to achieving the editorial policy. It is concluded that the material of the sections demonstrate a constructive dialogue in search of answers to the key questions.Novelty. For the first time the content of «Readers write» and «Our correspondence» of 1960 is studied as a component of the editorial policy.The practical significance. The results of the study are important for a holistic vision of Petro Volynyak’s editorial work in immigration conditions.
