2192-PUB: Treatment Satisfaction in People with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) Receiving Basal Insulin (BI): Results from Real-World Studies and Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) with Insulin Glargine 300 U/mL (Gla-300)
Notice bibliographique
Résumé
BI analogs can help optimize glycemic control in people with T2D, but the patients’ satisfaction is key for acceptance and treatment adherence. ACHIEVE, REACH, and REGAIN were open-label real-world studies comparing Gla-300 with standard of care BI (ACHIEVE: insulin glargine 100 U/mL [Gla-100] or insulin detemir [IDet]; REACH and REGAIN: Gla-100, IDet, insulin degludec [IDeg] or neutral protamine Hagedorn). EDITION 1-3 and BRIGHT were open-label RCTs comparing Gla-300 with Gla-100 and IDeg, respectively. All studies were in people with uncontrolled T2D and used the Diabetes Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire status version (DTSQs; Table). In RCTs and real-world studies, initiating BI in insulin-naïve participants was associated with improved treatment satisfaction after 6 months (ACHIEVE, 12 months) and a reduction in the perceived frequency of hyperglycemia. Perceived hypoglycemia increased slightly from low baseline values. Similar findings were found in patients switching BI, with improved patient satisfaction and reduced perceived frequency of hyperglycemia after 6 months of treatment, and no change in perceived hypoglycemia. Initiating or switching BI in people with uncontrolled T2D can improve patient satisfaction, irrespective of baseline diabetes treatment. Disclosure S.B.
