Canadian Woman Studies/les cahiers de la femme, Special Issue: 2000: Eradicating Poverty and in the 21st Century, vol. 20, no. 3 (Fall 2000), pp. 64-71.This article serves as a guide to international human rights law for Canadian advocates. By providing a brief history of violence against women as an international human rights issue, and an example of how Canadians have used the UN treaties, the author attempts to demystify the legal instruments and organizational mechanisms available to activists. Using this experience as an example, she describes a process of polarization and homogenization in politics which makes protesting difficult. She expands her discussion to inclusivity and empowerment at protests more generally.
