Wild leeks (Allium tricoccum) are shade tolerant edible plants native to deciduous forests in the United States and Canada. Conservation measures are underway in states like West Virginia, North Carolina, Virginia and New York because of the threat of overharvest. In Missouri, wild leeks are documented in 19 counties. To avoid this imminent risk in Missouri and protect natural populations, the main goal of this study is to offer training through outreach and education based on research conducted in these states. We are also evaluating them as specialty crops in Missouri to discourage digging in the wild.
