Child sexual abuse has a profound impact on individuals psychologically, physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. The impact is compounded when the offender that committed the sexual abuse is a person of faith, a spiritual leader within the home or within the church. Through this qualitative research, adult victim-survivors of child sexual abuse, individuals that had been part of The Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, share their stories of spiritual healing. Each of these individuals was abused by someone who represented the Christian faith. This thesis is deeply contextual. The research interest arises out of the researcher’s own experience as a Children’s Pastor and Consultant within The Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. In accordance with the expectations of the Doctor of Ministry program at the Toronto School of Theology, this thesis begins by exposing the researcher’s personal context and is followed by an investigation of the theological and contemporary thoughts that influence the research study and application. A theology of ministry provides and shapes the background, for listening to the voices and stories of the participants. The qualitative research design relies primarily on the phenomenological narrative as shared through interviews with the participants. Through their conversations, the participants reveal what has nurtured their spiritual healing and courage to disclose their stories. The research suggests that now is the time for the church to embrace an incarnational model of the atonement, our words, responses and posture all need to be congruent in modelling the person and work of Jesus Christ to victim-survivors of abuse.
