Abstract
A pesar de ser la escritora hispana m?s exitosa de los ?ltimos a?os, la cr?tica tien de a catalogar a la chilena Isabel Allende como autora popular de escasos recur sos te?ricos. Tomando en cuenta la tendencia hacia la personalizaci?n de los es quemas te?ricos que Nancy . Miller llama criticism, este art?culo considera Paula texto en que Allende adopta una postura autobiogr?fica al ha blar de la enfermedad y muerte de su hija un ejemplo de dicha cr?tica personal en la que /a autora revela sus particulares nociones sobre el feminismo. Mi lectura explora la orientaci?n geneal?gica del contenido de Paula as? como su perspectiva narrativa, destacando la preferencia en ambos planos por las relaciones entre ma dres e hijas. Analiza, tambi?n, las implicaciones feministas de la diada narrato l?gica madre-hija que sostiene Paula, compar?ndola con la ret?rica narrativa de Las mil y una noches y la psicolog?a feminista contenida en el mito de D?meter y Pers?fone y sus ritos antiguos. Este acercamiento ayuda a perfilar las prioridades feministas del texto a la vez que cuestiona la perjudicial noci?n de que la ac cesibilidad narrativa y la formulaci?n de teor?as son actividades mutualmente excluy entes.
