En une décennie, Normand Chaurette est passé d'un extrême à l'autre dans son approche du corpus shakespearien.En 1991, il fait le choix de s'approprier radicalement Shakespeare en écrivant les Reines, un texte dérivé de Richard III, par le biais, entre autres, de divers procédés de déconstruction, tandis qu'en 1999 il fait le choix inverse, en privilégiant plutôt, dans sa traduction, les ressources de la stylistique afin de restituer à la fois la sonorité et le rythme du vers du dramaturge anglais en plus de la dramaticité de Romeo & Juliet.Des Reines à Roméo et Juliette, en passant par Comme il vous plaira, Chaurette semble avoir eu une seule et même préoccupation : rendre la fluidité de la fable shakespearienne sans sacrifier la complexité émotive des œuvres.Les préoccupations du dramaturge sont indissociables de son approche traductrice, par la présence de motifs tels que la dualité, la mort, la folie et par la présence de procédés intertextuels, stylistiques ou déconstructeurs.Le talent de dramaturge de Normand Chaurette a ainsi contribué à l'approfondissement de son approche de la traduction, ce qui a eu pour conséquence d'amplifier l'ambiguïté des textes sources, notamment en en actualisant les dimensions vieillies de l'intrigue.Cette mouvance, propre à Chaurette, de l'adaptation vers la traduction se trouve à recouper une tendance observable dans le théâtre au Québec : alors qu'au cours des années 70 et 80 les praticiens cherchaient volontiers à incorporer les œuvres étrangères à la dramaturgie nationale, on a vu cette pratique s'amenuiser au cours des années 90.Bien qu'il soit possible de relever l'influence certaine d'œuvres littéraires sur ses textes (à commencer par l'ensemble du corpus
