Abstract
Nach einer kurzen Einleitung, welche die Motivationen für dieses Thema und die Struktur dieser Arbeit präsentiert, werden in Teil II der Identitätsbegriff und die für diese Arbeit relevanten Unterbegriffe definiert. Dabei wird zuerst auf die individuelle Identität eingegangen, welche in engster Verbindung mit der kollektiven Identität steht, da ein Individuum immer mit seiner Umwelt interagiert und von ihr beeinflusst wird. Weiters wird der Zusammenhang zwischen Identität, Ethnie und Kultur erklärt, der vor allem im Migrationskontext an Bedeutung gewinnt, ebenso wie jener zwischen Identität und Sprache. Am Ende des II. Teils wird auf den Identitätsbegriff im speziellen Kontext Quebecs eingegangen. Teil III beschäftigt sich mit der italienischen Gemeinschaft in Montreal und gibt einen Einblick in die Geschichte der italienischen Immigration nach Kanada, Quebec und Montreal. Dabei werden vor allem die beiden großen Immigrationswellen vor dem ersten und nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg näher beleuchtet und das Leben der Italiener im Zielland beschrieben. Außerdem wird auf die Sprach- und Immigrationspolitik Kanadas und Quebecs, die italienischen Organisationen und Medien sowie die künstlerischen Produktionen der Italokanadier eingegangen. Zuletzt wird die teilweise schwierige Identitätssuche der 2. Generation thematisiert, welche als Ausgangspunkt für die anschließende empirische Recherche dient. Teil IV stellt die Methodologie und Vorgehensweise der von März bis Juni 2011 durchgeführten Studie vor, welche sich zum Ziel gesetzt hat mithilfe von zehn qualitativen Interviews mit Italokanadiern der 3. Generation ihre sprachliche und kulturelle Identität im mehrsprachigen Kontext Montreals zu definieren.
