Abstract
En Espana el cuidado de las personas dependientes (PD) es asumido de forma mayoritaria por los familiares, que se convierten en cuidadores principales (PCP) y constituyen el sistema de apoyo informal. El proposito de este estudio fue relacionar el sexo y la tipologia de genero con caracteristicas sociodemograficas y sociolaborales de las PCP. Se llevo a cabo un estudio de diseno transversal y se realizo una entrevista domiciliaria a 47 PCP de PD pertenecientes a La Canada de San Urbano y El Alquian (Almeria). Resultados: El porcentaje de mujeres como PCP es mayor que el de hombres, tienen entre 45-54 anos, bajo nivel de estudios, peor situacion convivencial, economica y laboral; se responsabilizan y realizan individualmente mas actividades domesticas, invierten mas horas, atienden mas necesidades de la PD y, aplican mas variedad de cuidados. Mujeres y hombres (hijas/os de PD) tuvieron buena relacion previa con la PD, llevan menos de 10 anos cuidando, tienen similares motivaciones (obligacion moral) y perciben repercusiones positivas por cuidar a la PD (mejora calidad vida de la PD). Los rasgos expresivos estereotipicamente femeninos no influyen para ser PCP, atender necesidades y aplicar cuidados a PD. El trabajo de la PCP puede ser valorado por el tiempo invertido, responsabilidad, variedad y, cantidad de actividades no remuneradas (domesticas, rol cuidador) realizadas.
