Dans les marécages, la présence de macrophytes et d'organismes associés peut \ninfluencer le cycle du mercure selon trois voies : 1) favoriser les conditions de \nméthylation du mercure par les bactéries et les épiphytes ; 2) promouvoir les conditions \nde réduction du Hg (II) en Hg (0) volatile par les bactéries, les macrophytes ou les \népiphytes associées ; 3) affecter le budget régional du Hg à leur mort, transférant le Hg \nparticulaire lors de marnage. \nDans le contexte du rôle des macrophytes dans la production du mercure dissous \ngazeux (MGD, formé principalement de Hg°, le premier objectif de l'étude était d'établir \nsi les bancs de macrophytes in situ sont des sites producteurs de MGD. Nous avons \nconduit nos études à la baie St. François, un marécage du lac StPierre, lac fluvial du \nfleuve St-Laurent. Les profils en profondeur de MGD ont été mesurés dans trois types de \nmacrophytes (plantes émergentes, flottantes et submergées) et une zone sans \nmacrophytes. Deuxièmement pour affiner la compréhension de l'influence des \nmacrophytes submergées, des expériences en bouteilles ont é1é réalisées avec des \nbranches de Ceratophyllum sp. disposées dans des échantillons d'eau de surface incubées \nau soleil ou au noir. \nL'étude in situ des différents bancs de macrophytes suggère que les concentrations \nde MGD sont influencées au cours de la saison par la l'intensité lumineuse, la penétration \nlumineuse, l'oxygène, le carbone organique et le type de macrophyte. \nLes expériences d'incubaton nous ont montré le rôle inattendu de Ceratophyllum \nsp.. En effet les incubations au soleil ou au noir ont montré que Ceratophyllum sp. serait \ncapable de freiner la production de MGD en adsorbant ou absorbant le Hg(II) et de \ndiminuer la quantité de MGD dans l'eau en oxydant, en adsorbant ou absorbant le Hg°. \nLes mesures in situ et les incubations de sédiments ont montré le potentiel réducteur \ndes sédiments dans une eau anoxique. Ce potentiel semble impliquer les processus \nabiotiques de réduction (influence des surfaces) et les processus biotiques (bactéries).
