Abstract
Mariano Jose de Larra, the great Spanish journalist of 19th century, was voted member of parliament, representing the province of Avila, in the second Court of 1836 with the support of government and of local authorities and civil servants. As a compensation he managed promotions and transfers for assistants and collaborators, in a exchange of influences. Larra decided to enter in politics even though against his proclaimed independence, to do it representing the moderate party despite his progressive orientation, to refuse the critical politics during the elections campaign and he leaft the newspaper El Espanol to work for El Mundo, more conservative. All this caused social rejection and vital worries that influenced his decision to commit suicide more than the mentioned failure in love.
