Cet article prsente les rsultats d'un sondage national effectu en 1998 auprs des membres de l'Association of Canadian Archivists.Selon la mthode de Salant et Dillman pour la tenue de sondages postaux, un taux lev de soixante-dix pour cent permet de dresser un portrait fidle de la situation.Le profil dmographique qui est prsent ici dcoule des questionnaires retourns de toutes les provinces et territoires.Des tableaux de frquences sont offerts dans l'article.Les rsultats obtenus dmontrent la valeur des sondages et indiquent le besoin de la profession quant la collecte rgulire de donnes ; cela permet de conserver les connaissances jour sur cette profession et de contrler la faon dont ses traits et besoins sont reprsents dans le cadre d'initiatives professionnelles et institutionnelles.
