Le présent rapport contient les résultats de recherche concernant la faisabilité reliée à l'inscription du fjord du Saguenay sur la liste indicative canadienne du Patrimoine mondial de 2014. Il définit d'abord, dans la première partie, le cadre mondial de l'espace qui a été marqué par les glaciations de l'ère Quaternaire, espace dans lequel s'inscrivent les côtes à fjords que l'on trouve en Norvège, en Islande, en Écosse, au Canada, en Alaska, en Nouvelle-Zélande, au Chili, dans les îles Kerguelen et dans l'île South Georgia. Le rapport décrit la morphologie d'un fjord et les facteurs à l'origine de sa formation. Il fait ensuite, dans une seconde partie, un examen des principaux fjords observés dans le monde tant dans l'hémisphère nord que dans l'hémisphère sud. Dans la troisième partie, il présente les sites du patrimoine mondial qui comportent des fjords. Il expose les critères qui ont été à la base de la sélection de ces sites par le secrétariat du Patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco. Dans la quatrième partie, il présente la candidature du fjord du Saguenay. Il décrit les principales composantes du site. Dans la cinquième partie, le rapport décrit les différentes étapes que le dossier de candidature doit suivre pour être examiné par les responsables de la révision de la liste indicative canadienne de 2014 et, éventuellement, sur la liste du Patrimoine mondial. Dans la sixième partie, il définit les principaux arguments en faveur de son inscription sur la liste indicative canadienne du patrimoine mondial de 2014. Des documents ou rapports ayant trait à la liste du patrimoine mondial ou touchant la candidature du fjord du Saguenay sont annexés au présent rapport.
