Abstract
En 1912 etait creee la toute premiere station de recherche pomicole au Quebec. Cette station du ministere de l’Agriculture du gouvernement du Canada, d’abord localisee a Covey Hill, a ete transferee a Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu et est ensuite devenue le Centre de recherche et de developpement en horticulture (CRDH). S'ensuivit, en 1969, l'ouverture d’un verger experimental a la Ferme de recherche federale de Frelighsburg. Quant au gouvernement du Quebec, il inaugurait, en 1951, la Station de recherche en protection des vergers a Farnham. En 1975, il mettait sur pied le Reseaupommier, qui designait et designe toujours le regroupement des intervenants de la recherche, du developpement et du transfert technologique de la protection des vergers de pommiers au Quebec. Depuis sa creation, le Reseau chapeaute un « reseau » de vergers pilotes et coordonne la production et la diffusion des avertissements phytosanitaires du pommier. Ces derniers ont servi de modele pour l'actuel Reseau d'avertissements phytosanitaires dans plusieurs autres cultures. En 1990, le ministere de l’Agriculture, des Pecheries et de l’Alimentation du Quebec (MAPAQ) fermait la station de Farnham et il concentrait ses activites en protection des vergers a son Centre de recherche en protection des cultures de Saint-Hyacinthe.
