RÉSUMÉ: De nombreuses études ont évalué l'impact de la conchyliculture sur l'environnement
\nbenthique. La plupart de ces études ont comparé des sites aquacoles à des sites contrôles,
\nmais peu d'attention a été portée à l'étude des processus qui mènent aux changements entre
\nces deux types de sites. Nous faisons ici le rapport des résultats d'une étude in situ menée
\nen 2009 à l'aide de mésocosmes benthiques (benthocosmes) dans la Lagune de Hâvre-aux-
\nMaisons (Îles de la Madeleine, Québec, Canada). Cette étude a examiné les effets doseréponse
\nde la biodéposition des moules sur l'environnement benthique. L'hypothèse
\nprincipale évaluée est que les changements benthiques - communautés benthiques,
\ncaractéristiques du sédiment et flux biogéochimiques - répondent de façon non linéaire à
\nl'enrichissement par la biodéposition des moules. Des benthocosmes de 60 cm de diamètre
\nont été placés dans le fond de la lagune et ont reçu les biodépôts de 0, 200, 400, 600, 800,
\n1000, 1200 et 1400 moules m-2. Les caractéristiques des sédiments ont changé
\nsignificativement entre 200 et 400 moules m -2 (la matière organique et la porosité ont
\naugmenté et la taille des particules a diminué). Ce seuil a également été observé lors de
\nl'étude multivariée de la structure de la communauté. La taille des particules était le
\nparamètre qui expliquait le plus les changements observés dans la structure de la
\ncommunauté. Celle-ci était largement caractérisée par les changements dans les abondances
\ndes espèces très sensibles (ex., Angulus agilis) et très tolérantes (ex., Capitella spp.) à
\nl'enrichissement organique. L'indice biologique M-AMBI a indiqué que l'augmentation du
\ntaux de biodéposition changeait le statut de l'environnement benthique de Élevé à Bon entre
\no et 200 moules m-2. Les flux biogéochimiques variaient largement entre les traitements et,
\nbien que plusieurs flux n'aient par répondu significativement, il y avait une tendance
\ngénérale d'augmentation de rejets de ces flux (du sédiment à la colonne d'eau) avec
\nl'augmentation du taux de biodéposition. Cette étude ainsi que les prochaines expériences
\nde ce genre peuvent être utilisées dans le développement de modèles servant à déterminer la
\ncapacité de support environnementale des sites soumis à la culture de bivalves. -- ABSTRACT: Many studies have evaluated the impact of bivalve aquaculture on the benthic environment.
\nMost of these have compared farm sites with control or reference sites. Less attention has
\nfocussed on the study of the processes leading to disturbance. Here, we report the results of
\nan in situ benthic mesocosm (benthocosm) experiment done in Havre-aux-Maisons Lagoon
\n(Îles de la Madeleine, Québec, Canada) to examine the dose-dependent effects of
\nbiodeposition from mussels on the benthic environment. The main hypothesis evaluated is
\nthat benthic changes - infaunal communities, sediment characteristics and biogeochemical
\nfluxes - foHow a non-linear response to enrichment from biodeposition by mussels.
\nBenthocosms (60 cm diameter) were placed in the natural sea bottom and received
\nbiodeposits from 0, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200 and 1400 mussels m-2. Sediment
\ncharacteristics changed significantly between 200 and 400 musse1s m-2 (organic matter and
\nwater content increased and grain size decreased) as did multivariate community structure.
\nSediment grain size was the most important parameter accounting for changes in
\ncommunity structure, which were 1argely characterized by changes in abundances of
\nspecies that are very sensitive (e.g., Angulus agUis) and very to1erant (e.g., Capitella spp.)
\nto organic loading. The biotic index M-AMBI indicated that increasing biodeposition
\nchanged the benthic environment status from High to Goodbetween 0 and 200 mussels m-2

\nBiogeochemica1 fluxes varied widely within treatments and although most fluxes did not
\nvary significantly, there was a general trend for aH those measured to increase with
\nincreasing biodeposition. Both univariate and multivariate analyses indicated that the
\nchanges in the benthic environment were non-linear, with a threshold between 200 and 400
\nmussels m-2
\n. Results from this and similar and improved experiments can be used to
\ndevelop models to determine the environmental carrying capacity of sites for bivalve
\nculture.
