Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

This study aims to find out which variables have affected the change of market structure of the Korean Film Industry recently. The research has focused on the diversity of the nation, genre, and sources of films. There has been no previous study which emphasized the concept of diversity in analyzing film industry so far. In this respect, this study can contribute to add theoretical expansion of the film study. The main analytical model this study is based on is provided by Moreau and Peltier. They categorized the concept of diversity into three dimension, chat is, variety, balance, and disparity. The cultural diversity is defined as expansion of cultural product and services in both terms of production and consumption. The research results are that the current market structure of Korean Film industry increased the diversity in respect to nation, but that the diversity of genre and sources have been decreased and the market is monopolized by a few powerful firms that own distribution outlets on a national scale. This study make suggestions for the development of Korean Film industry in the long term as follows. First of all, there is no economic and cultural rational to maintain the screen quarter system more in that there shows great diversity of nation in the market. Second, it should be rather careful to adopt the minority quarter system. The reason behind the decrease of diversity can be explained by another factor like the reduction of production itself and concentration of genres. Finally, the merger and acquisition of upstream and downstream firms brings about the market concentration and decrease of audience welfare. It is necessary to consider the vertical integration of production firms and distribution in antitrust aspect.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
