L'enquête auprès des chargeurs et opérateurs de fret (enquête ECHO) est une enquête lourde qui a associé toutes les directions transport du Ministère et de la DAEI. La réalisation s'est échelonnée de 2002 à 2006. Cette enquête a pour objectif de décrire des chaînes logistiques pour touts les modes de transport. Dans ce but 10.000 envois ont été suivis pendant les années 2003 et 2004 avec des questionnaires adressés aux établissements chargeurs, aux agents de fret et aux transporteurs. Le champ d'enquête recouvre l'ensemble des secteurs de l'industrie, des commerces de gros , de la VPC et de l'entreposage, les industries d'extraction, l'agriculture saisie uniquement au travers des commerces de gros ou des coopératives agricoles, le BTP ou la presse ont été exclus du champ de l'enquête, ainsi que les établissements de moins de 10 salariés. Pour le mode aérien, l'INRETS est parvenu à obtenir 894 envois ce qui était conforme aux objectifs. La présente synthèse comporte six chapitres qui reprennent les principaux résultats de ce rapport concernant le mode aérien. Elle est précédée d'un encadré qui rappelle les principales caractéristiques du fret aérien et par rapport auxquelles il convient de situer les résultats de l'enquête ECHO
