L’inventaire du patrimoine ferroviaire de la ligne de Grande Ceinture a été commandé par le département de la Seine-Saint-Denis au Centre de documentation d’histoire des techniques et de l’environnement (CNAM). Le commanditaire et l’auteur principal de l’étude exposent le contexte de la recherche, ses conditions et ses résultats.L’étude de l’urbanisation d’un territoire situé aux portes de Paris implique celle des voies de communication et des infrastructures de transports dont les emprises, très importantes, entretiennent des liens avec le territoire malgré les coupures urbaines qu’elles représentent.Patrimoine technique du système ferroviaire, patrimoine linéaire dans un territoire, patrimoine qui témoigne de l’identité du réseau qui dépasse le territoire, patrimoine urbain enfin, il doit être appréhendé dans toutes ces dimensions. Construite dans les années 1880, la ligne de Grande Ceinture, dans son parcours sur le territoire du département, a été choisie comme site pilote d’une étude plus large. Les remaniements en cours justifient également relevé de son patrimoine dans son état actuel. L’étude a permis l’établissement d’une fiche descriptive adaptée au patrimoine ferroviaire et d’un glossaire ; un relevé photographique a été réalisé.
