Abstract
The formation of O-glycosides is generally thought of as a challenging chemical transformation for which, despite well over a century of research, no general solutions exist. The formation of glycosyl hydrazides and N-glycosyl oxyamines offers numerous advantages over O-glycoside synthesis. The transformations are readily carried out, without the need for protecting groups, and can be achieved in aqueous solvents. This chapter covers the generation and use of hydrazide and hydroxylamine glycoconjugates, and the applications of these compounds in analysis, synthesis, medicinal chemistry, and glycobiology.
