Abstract
Maria Chapdelaine de Louis Hémon est un classique de la littérature du Canada français. Publié après la mort de son auteur d’abord en France, en 1914, sous forme de feuilleton et ensuite au Canada, en 1916, sous forme de livre, ce chef-d’œuvre a connu plusieurs rééditions dans le monde entier. En Italie, il a été traduit cinq fois : la première par Lorenzo Gigli en 1924 et la dernière par Ugo Piscopo en 1986. Ce roman contenant presque une centaine de particularités linguistiques du français parlé au Canada au début du XX e siècle, dans cette étude nous montrons que les stratégies adoptées par les traducteurs pour rendre en italien certains canadianismes ne sont pas toujours cohérentes et pertinentes.
