Abstract
El objetivo de este texto es presentar el estado de la cuestión acerca de las migraciones de población entre Argentina y España a partir del último cuarto del siglo XX. Se trata de hacer visible un segmento de la inmigración latinoamericana hasta ahora poco visible en el contexto español. A pesar de ser el tercer colectivo nacional más numeroso de este bloque ni la opinión pública ni las investigaciones le han prestado suficiente atención hasta la fecha. Señalamos la evolución social del país de origen en las últimas décadas con el fin de identificar los principales «momentos emigratorios », que nos permiten identificar diferentes ondas migratorias (finales de los setenta, de los ochenta y comienzos del siglo XXI). La composición por sexo y edades, así como las pautas de asentamiento geográfico muestran ciertas peculiaridades de la inmigración argentina respecto al resto de «no comunitarios». Sus niveles de cualificación y formación académica parecen, en principio, señalar también una especificidad diferenciadora. Sin embargo, los índices de irregularidad (inmigrantes «sin papeles») y las modalidades de inserción ocupacional de los recién llegados muestran que estamos en presencia de una inmigración económica que comparte dificultades y problemas con los procedentes de otros países. La dificultad para percibir a este colectivo como «uno más entre los inmigrantes» radica tanto en las percepciones de la opinión pública autóctona como en una falta de interés o atención por los responsables institucionales de ambos países.
