Abstract
Social and health policies regarding drug and alcohol issues are often broadly applied without consideration for the unique situation of an individual community. This research looked at the use of drugs in a small urban community in northern British Columbia, Canada. A survey tool was developed to determine if youth in the community displayed patterns of use that were believed to be prevalent throughout the province of British Columbia. The findings suggested that patterns of use were different. Effective policies must be based on local research that reflects local need.
