Chaque année, le milieu scolaire marque une pause pour laisser place à deux fêtes importantes. La première se déroule sitôt la rentrée scolaire, en septembre : ce sont les initiations universitaires où les anciens (ou initiateurs) se font fort d’intégrer les nouveaux (ou initiés). La seconde prend place à la fin de l’année scolaire, au mois de juin, quand les étudiants du secondaire, qui terminent leur cycle d’étude, soulignent à gros traits les bals de finissants. Dans chacun de ces événements, la consommation d’alcool est considérable. C’est sur elle que notre regard se pose dans cet article : qu’est-ce qui amène ces jeunes à boire de l’alcool de façon assez importante à ces moments précis ? Que boivent-ils ? Les types de boisson ont-ils une connotation particulière ? Comment boivent-ils aussi ? Boivent-ils différemment qu’à l’habitude ? Voilà quelques questions qui soutiennent la réflexion au coeur de l’article. La première partie du texte est consacrée à la description du boire dans les bals de finissants et dans les initiations universitaires. Dans la deuxième partie, nous essayons de comprendre le sens de ce boire, à partir des propos des acteurs eux-mêmes et aussi en tenant compte du cadre général de ces deux rituels festifs.
